The Camp Kinderland Annual Newsletter is Here!
The annual Camp Kinderland newsletter is out today, and we have a lot o news to share with you!
Summer 2026 marks our 50th in Tolland, Massachusetts, and Mitch Silver has written a reflection on what these five decades on Colebrook River Road have meant to our community.
We also honor Billy Rothberg as he steps down after 45 years (!) as Board President, and welcome Steve Itzkowitz into that role. You'll want to read both of their letters, along with Director Cindy Zingher's, and Alice Shechter's tribute to Billy and everything he's built.
You'll find photos from last summer taken by David Rendell and Joanna Kalb, Sandra's report on this summer's Peace Olympics teams, plus a full cultural programming recap from Judee, including guest speakers, the Hiroshima commemoration, Carnival, and the CIT production of Fiorello.
There's also "field report" from Lucas Freshman about his trip with Dave Rendell to visit the Clapton Community FC, the antifascist soccer club in East London that now has a Camp Kinderland handkerchief hanging in its clubhouse. Plus new books from Zayd Ayers Dohrn, Ellen Meeropol, and Jolie Pataki; news about four Kinderlanders on Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's transition team; a report from NYC Educators for Palestine; and, of course, a whole crop of future campers to welcome.
We remember Fay Itzkowitz, Robert Boikess, and Howard "Haitch" Kaplan, all of whom left deep marks on our community.
We hope you'll take the time to read the whole thing.
In Solidarity,
The Camp Kinderland Newsletter Department
